Hegedal Route (4.4 km round trip)

Views over Mariager Fjord, hills with grasslands, deep valleys, and open beach make Hegedal Route something quite special. The Hegedal Route is marked with red triangles.

Starting point: There is public parking at Nordre Kajgade 1, 9500 Hobro as well as at Brogade 5B, 9500 Hobro. It is also possible to park at Nedre Strandvej 69, 9500 Hobro.

The animals on the Hegedal Route: The Hegedal Route goes through areas with sheep, cattle, and horses, which are important for nature management due to their grazing. They are usually peaceful livestock used to human presence in the area. However, it is important to be mindful of the animals and follow these guidelines:

Before you enter the enclosure:

Orient yourself as best as you can about where the animals are and where the nearest exit is.

If you have children or others with you who are not used to being in enclosures with grazing animals, talk to them about how to behave before you enter.

Consider carefully choosing another route if you have a dog with you. We do NOT recommend taking a dog into enclosures with grazing animals. If you still choose to enter, please read our advice for dog owners below.

When you are in the enclosure:

Keep your distance and walk quietly in a wide arc around the herd – never through it.

Avoid getting between a cow and its calf or between a bull and its herd.

Do not pet or feed the animals.

If you choose to bring a dog, it must be on a short leash. Keep the dog leash in hand – it should never be attached to you in any other way. Release the leash if it becomes clear that a cow will attack, so your dog can run to safety without putting you in danger.
