Hobro Østerskov Tour (6 km round trip)

Starting point: The public parking lot at Skovvej 26, 9500 Hobro at the western end of the forest. Additional parking at Hobro Sports Center on Amerikavej 22, 9500 Hobro or at the entrance to Ormeskoven at Kirketoften 12, 9500 Hobro at the eastern end of the route.

Marking: The Østerskov tour is marked with red arrows/triangles on marking posts and is marked in both directions - the route is a circular tour.

Experiences: The Østerskov tour offers large gnarled oak trees, tall, straight beech trees, and many different bird species, with the green woodpecker being one of the more shy ones. The route crosses streams, runs along the fjord, and takes you up in height, where in several places you have the opportunity to look out over Mariager Fjord - Denmark's most beautiful fjord. On well-trodden paths and through old sunken roads, you will pass the viewpoint Duehøj. Large broad beech trees provide shelter for most of the tour except for the stretch out to Mariager Fjord, where the forest opens up to a beautiful view towards Hegedal to the north. By the fjord, you will also find the forest's shelter area with a fire pit and a view over the water.

You will find information about the forest and the area in general at the parking lots around the route, as well as orient yourself on the map. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to stop and rest your feet, legs, and body on one of the many benches or larger tree trunks placed along the route. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and let the many sounds of the forest wash over you.

Animals on the Østerskov tour: Throughout the year, the oak scrub at the western end of the forest is accompanied by forest cattle, which graze and keep the forest floor light open for many herbs and other life. If you have your dog with you or do not wish to go through the enclosure, you can choose to take the alternative route outside the enclosure, which is indicated on the map with a red dashed line on the information signs located at the starting point on Skovvej, at the parking lot on Amerikavej, or at the stop on Kirketoften. Remember to keep the dog on a leash.

Public transport: There are about 800 m from the bus terminal in Hobro to the start and stop point of the route. There are several bus stops near the route that can also be used.

The route primarily runs on forest paths, where some stretches are 1.5 m wide and in other places only 0.8 meters, and on gravel roads that are about 4 m wide. Vehicles and cyclists may come on the gravel roads.

Bicycle route 32 has the same trace on the gravel road in the eastern part of the route and along the fjord.

There are plenty of opportunities to shorten the route and create your own loops in the forest.
