The purpose of the preservation is to maintain the area's character of a coherent landscape, improve living conditions for plant and animal life, and create a basis for nature care and nature restoration. Furthermore, one of the aims of the preservation is to improve public access. The landscape is a glacial meltwater valley, characterized by the wide, flat valley floor, where gently sloping valley sides rise up to the surrounding landscape with Værebro Å at the bottom of the valley corridor.
