Kongsdal Route (2.2 km round trip)

Starting point: There is free parking without time limits at the idyllic marina at Kongsdal Havn 8, 9550 Kongsdal Huse.

Public transport: Bus line 234 bus stop 'Kongsdalvej' is located 550 meters from the route's starting point.

Marking: The route is clearly marked with white arrows in both directions, making it easy to follow regardless of which way you choose to go.

Experiences: From the start, the route moves through a varied landscape with both open areas and quieter paths. Along the way, you pass the characteristic chalk pit, where the bright cliffs and unique terrain create an exciting contrast to the surroundings. Here, there are good opportunities to take a break and enjoy the view.

The area, which is connected to the historic cement town of Dania, is today a scenic area with rare orchids, chalk grasslands, and protected areas. It is a unique destination for nature lovers and geology enthusiasts.

Experiences and features of Dania Chalk Pit:

• Turquoise-blue lake: A 9-meter deep, striking lake characterizes the bottom of the pit.
• Nature & Geology: The area is known for its rich flora, including rare orchids like the marsh lip orchid, meat-colored orchid, and purple orchid. It is an old chalk and chalk slurry pit from the Portland Cement Factory.
• Geological history: The area contains high-quality chalk and fossils.
• Protection: The chalk pit has been the subject of protection discussions and has effectively been protected since 2018 to preserve its unique nature,

NOTE: Along the route, there is the opportunity to scan QR codes and access exciting stories from the area. The stories are available in Danish, German, and English.

The entire trip is manageable and suitable for walkers of all ages and strollers, and it offers a nice combination of nature, experiences, and good facilities, such as toilets, playground, and restaurant, close to the start and end.
