The route takes you through an exciting landscape with both nature and industrial history along Mariager Fjord. Along the way, you pass historical areas such as the former cement factory in Dania, the salt factory which is Scandinavia's only salt factory, producing 1 million tons of salt annually in various qualities, as well as the characteristic fishing village of Fladbjerg, which gives the route its name.
The area is rich in stories from a time when industry and day laborers shaped daily life.
Along the route, you will find posted QR codes, which allow you to delve deeper into the history. Here you can hear stories about, among others, the author Hans Kirk and the lives and conditions of the day laborers in the area. The stories are available in Danish, German, and English, making the route suitable for both local and international visitors.
NOTE: The route primarily takes place on asphalt, making it easily accessible for most. It is an ideal trip for those who want a combination of exercise, nature, and local cultural history.
The entire route is manageable and suitable for walkers of all ages and strollers, and it offers a nice combination of nature, experiences, and good facilities close to the start and end.
Please be considerate of local residents and traffic, as there is no sidewalk along the stretch around Dania.
Selected photos are kindly loaned by local photographer Ina Malchow.
