Starting point: There is free parking with no time limit at Ny Havnevej 6, 9550 Mariager, at Hohøj Skovvej 7, 9550 Mariager, and at Rosenhaven, Klostergade 15, 9550 Mariager.

At Mariager Harbor, you can enjoy the view of the fjord and the charming boats docked. From here, you begin your journey through the city's winding and cobblestone streets and further into the surrounding landscape. One of the first highlights of the route is Mariager Church Monastery, a gem of historical architecture and tranquility. The monastery was founded in the 1440s and served as a convent for the Brigittine order until the Reformation. Today, the well-preserved buildings stand as a testament to the area's rich history. It is worth taking a break here to explore the many details of the monastery, including a beautiful wall painting.

After enjoying the monastery, the Mariager Route continues through the old town center and out to the picturesque Alstrup Krat with its many traces from thousands of years of Danish history. Along beautiful, winding paths beneath the impressive green canopy of the beech forest, you are led up to Northern Europe's largest Bronze Age mound, Hohøj. From the top of Hohøj, there are expansive views over the rolling landscape and Mariager Fjord.

The route continues to the Munkholm area, where the forest envelops you again, providing shelter from wind and weather. Remember to keep your eyes and ears open, for you may be lucky enough to spot the local troll. Through Rosenhaven, where more than 400 different roses can catch your eye, a glance at the church monastery and the most beautiful walk through Vesterskoven leads you back to the fjord, which you follow for the rest of the way.
