Stage 15 Gudenåstien

On this stage, you walk along the edge of the Gudenå river below the slope of the valley. It is a beautiful and varied stage, but it is not the most accessible. There are several gates and a couple of stiles. The surface is a mix of gravel paths, wooden bridges, and tread paths with grass/earth. Please note that cycling or having dogs on the trail is not allowed - not even on a leash; this is due to conservation regulations.

Shortly before/west of Bamsebo Camping, there is a wet section due to a spring just above the trail, and the landowner has not wished for the trail to be improved with a wooden bridge. Therefore, it is recommended to walk away from the trail and along a short stretch of the bike path along Hagenstrupvej - see the pictures; especially pay attention to the pictogram with the flood icon - this is where you should turn right.

You can then enjoy the nice atmosphere at Bamsebo Camping and indulge in some goodies from their kiosk (including great ice cream) - with clean shoes.

There are train stations in both Bjerringbro and Ulstrup, so you can easily return to the starting point or travel to and from the route by train. From the station in Bjerringbro, you need to walk a few hundred meters down Brogade towards the Gudenå, where you take the footbridge under the road to head towards Ulstrup. In Ulstrup, from the station, walk a few hundred meters towards Ulstrup town (opposite Ulstrup Castle) - then cross the Gudenå, where you turn right (and west) towards Bjerringbro.

You can stay overnight in Bjerringbro - both in beds and shelters, at Kjællinghøl campsite in a shelter, at Bamsebo Camping, and in shelters and beds in Ulstrup - find the options at kort.oplevgudena.dk.

Bamsebo Camping is the only place where you can stock up a bit on the route between the two towns.

It is highly recommended to take a small detour from the Gudenå Trail and hike up to the top of Busbjerg, from where there is an incredibly beautiful view over the Gudenå valley.

The trail from Kjællinghøl has been renovated primarily with gravel paths around 2021, followed by renovations towards Bamsebo in 2025, and the rest towards Ulstrup is a bit older, but has a good wooden bridge. The last part of the wooden bridge has been added with a wooden strip on one side to ensure it is safe for wheelchair users.
