On stage 12, a recurring theme is raft pulling culture. You walk from one raft pulling inn to another - namely Svostrup Kro and Kongensbro Kro, and you pass by "the tarred pole" - a tarred post that was used to tow rafts around the bends.
The Gudenå Path is identical to the Pull Path between Silkeborg and Randers, which was the path from which men or horses, especially in the second half of the 1800s, pulled rafts loaded with goods - for example, paper from the paper mill in Silkeborg, turf, or other agricultural products.
On the trip, you also have a nice view over to Tvilum Church, which in the Middle Ages was a monastery church belonging to the Augustinian order.
NOTE the path can be wet. Check oplevgudenaa.dk/oversvoemmelse.
