Wide Å Canoe and Kayak Route

Brede Å drains a significant part of Southern Jutland and flows through very varied landscapes. Between Løgumkloster and Bredebro, the river is quite wide and the water flows briskly in some places. Therefore, it is only allowed to sail with the current between Nr. Løgum and Bredebro.

In recent years, there have been 5 wide rapids where the water is shallow and larger boulders lie. It can be a good idea to wade through the rapids.

After Bredebro, the water generally flows more calmly through the open expanses of the marshland.

Along the sailing route, there are numerous opportunities to go ashore and experience the surrounding landscape and its many attractions.

Among others, Løgumkloster Mølledam, the long barrows at Abterp, and of course, the Wadden Sea, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Just before the coastal road, it is possible to sail up the former course of Brede Å, now called Brede Å Dead Arm. Here you pass by Møllekilerne and the small museum associated with it.

Good starting points: Nørre Løgum, at Åved, Ellum Bygade at the road bridge, Bredebro at the iron bridge, and Ballum Enge at the sluice inn.
