Welcome to sailing on Susåen
Sailing on Susåen is a wonderful experience that many people enjoy. However, there must also be room for nature, which is why sailing is regulated by an announcement. This means that a valid and visible license plate is required on all vessels sailing on the river and in the lakes.
Launching of canoes
Launching of privately owned canoes is only permitted from launching sites. There is free access to launching from public locations at Ringsted Å and Frederikskilde Strand, Kongsgården, and Skelby. For launching canoes from private locations, arrangements must be made with the owner.
Rules for access
It is not permitted to go ashore outside of launching and resting places unless a paved road and path lead directly to the riverbank. Movement in private forests is only allowed on paved paths and established roads from 7:00 AM to sunset, and stays are not permitted within 150 m of residential and operational buildings.
Overnight stay and shopping
Overnight stays are only allowed at official campgrounds / shelter sites. Find options for overnight stays and shopping at Friluftsguiden.dk. See pricing on the rental company's website.
Toilets, drinking water, and waste
There is no drinking water (tap water) and toilet at all campgrounds. Pack the canoe so that it is easy to steer, meaning that luggage and passengers are evenly distributed in the canoe.
Help to keep nature clean. The other canoeists who come after you also need the opportunity for good experiences. Waste from the Frederikskilde campground must be taken with you.
When visiting churches, there is often an opportunity to borrow a toilet.
Plan the trip
Plan the trip! - this way, the enjoyment along the way is greater, and unpleasant surprises can be avoided. On the trip, you should stay dry, warm, and full. Bring rainproof clothing and plastic bags for your luggage. Remember garbage bags.
In normal weather, one can expect to paddle 3 to 5 km/h in a canoe. Remember that slower sailing provides the most nature experience. Prepare the travel time to the sights and campsites you wish to visit by measuring on the map. Even in the summer, there may be a need for a warm sleeping bag and warm change of clothes.
Provisions and drinking water
should be remembered from the start. Pack it in such a way that you can eat a little of it at regular intervals. Bringing cooking gear and fuel ensures the possibility of warm food at the campsite.
Vegetation cutting
According to the watercourse regulations, vegetation (cut aquatic plants that float in the water) is cut. When this occurs, there may be accumulated floating vegetation in the river. During the periods when vegetation is cut, it may be difficult for canoeists to pass.
