Hvirlå - Vidså Canoe and Kayak Route

Just as beautiful as it is here on a calm and peaceful summer day, it can be just as harsh when the weather turns unfriendly. The Vidå is wide and discharges more than 200,000 liters of water per second. This means the stream can be quite lively in a canoe or kayak.

On the other hand, it is a huge experience to sail through the marsh landscape on the watercourse that primarily drains the Tøndermarsk.

In addition to gliding through the Tøndermarsk and the wild nature, the sailing route passes by a number of exciting cultural experiences. Among other things, the town of Tønder, the pumping station at Lægan, and the sluices at Højer. Along the sailing route, there is a guarantee all year round to experience a large and varied birdlife with both wading birds, geese, ducks, and many others.

Note: There may be quite a few aquatic plants on some stretches, especially around Tønder and Nørresø.

Good starting points: Hvirlå from the bridge at Hostrup, Tønder at the rowing club, the green area at Rudbøl, and the Boat Harbor in Højer.
