The Gudenå: Tørring-Klostermølle approx. 40 km

Tørring is a popular starting point for canoeing on the Gudenå River. Here, the Gudenå River becomes wide enough to paddle on it. The stretch is a typical river course - narrow, winding, and without larger lakes. Furthermore, there are no motorboats or opposing traffic. After Bredstenbro, the river widens and the water deepens. At high water levels, one must carry the canoe over Bredstenbro.

After Bredvad Bro, there is an area with several dammed lakes created in connection with the Vestbirk Hydroelectric Power Station. Note! Horsens Municipality is currently working on a historically large project to restore the Gudenå River and rehabilitate nature, so here you paddle near a work site. It is especially in Bredvad Lake and again at the Vestbirk Hydroelectric Power Station where canoes/kayaks must typically be dragged over. Horsens Municipality has created this guide for paddlers, which also includes a map. There are signs out there.

Part of the stretch towards Klostermølle runs through a forest and is almost jungle-like. Where Klostermølle is situated today, Voer Monastery used to be. The monks of the monastery dug out the canal that you now paddle through 800 years ago to utilize the water power for their milling. Please note that there are some places with spawning grounds laid out, and therefore the water level may be low.

There are several camping and tent sites. Find them on the Gudenå map or the physical canoe brochure. Please note that Aastedbro Camping Site comes just after the bridge, Aasted Bro, to the left.

Please note:

• that one may paddle on the Gudenå River from 8 AM to 6 PM
• that all vessels must be registered before launching
• that one may only paddle with the current
• that one may paddle from June 16 until the end of the year
