America's first stone house and probably the first with two levels. It owes its name to the cordon that it exhibits on its façade associated with the Franciscan order. It was commissioned by Don Francisco de Garay, a traveling companion of Christopher Columbus' first voyage who later became governor of Jamaica.
Viceroys Diego Colón and María de Toledo lived in it briefly as the Alcázar was being built.
During the times of the incursion of Francis Drake, in this house the scale was placed where the belongings that the settlers had to deliver to the corsair should be weighed.
