I think it's been about 17 years since I first visited the Nuria Valley. It is a beautiful valley in the Catalan Pyrenees, which you can only reach in two ways: on foot after a hefty mountain hike or by cogwheel train. That train, or also the walk, starts in Queralbs or in Ribes de Freser. In the hidden valley there is a church dedicated to the virgin of Nuria, so you can often find pilgrims there. But most people come there to enjoy the beautiful nature. From Nuria you can climb a number of mountains, and from one of them I also reached the top: the Puigmal. That means that it is a very easy climb, a long breathtaking (!) walk, for which you only need a pair of sturdy mountain shoes and have to leave at the crack of dawn. In winter you can also ski there, but you don't have to expect spectacular slopes. You can also spend the night, in the hotel, on the campsite or in a cozy inn where you set your table yourself. And according to my children, no luxury hotel can match that! Only you will certainly never be there, but it will always be a quiet place, to which we like to return again and again.
