Pauls[1][2][3] or Paúls[4] is a municipality in Catalonia, Spain. It belongs to the province of Tarragona and is located in the comarca of Bajo Ebro. According to data from 2014, its population was 596 inhabitants.
The first documented news about the municipality is in a document from 1168. It concerns the donation letter made by King Alfonso I of Aragon of the castle of Pauls to Guerau de Riu, Pere de Santmartí, and Ramón Queralt. The castle was delivered to them on the condition that they oversee the repopulation of the area. In 1205, the lordship passed to Drogo de Verdeyo and by the 13th century belonged to the Despuig family.
