Lourenzá is a municipality in the province of Lugo in Galicia, belonging to the Comarca da Mariña Central. Population in 2004 was 2,700 people according to the INE. The history of these lands is closely linked to that of the Monastery of San Salvador de Lourenzá, created around the 10th century by Osorio Gutiérrez. A familiar figure in the 12th century, when it came to belong to the Order of Saint Benedict. It reached its greatest splendor in the 17th century and in 1642 Felipe IV granted Lourenzá to Alvaro Quiñones, the marquis. The monastery was closed in 1835 due to the Mendizábal dispossession.
