This country was given the name of a killer flu that started in World War I: The Spanish Flu. The virus originated in the US and raged strong in England and France. But because those countries were at war, all negative messages were censored. However, Spain was neutral in WW I. And that's why the freedom of the press was greater there. It therefore seemed that the flu was mainly raging there. And so the group got its international, incorrect name.
