This building was constructed between 1887 and 1888 by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the same one we will see/have seen in Mataró. The place was meant to be the café restaurant of the 1888 Universal Exposition. It is built with exposed brick, uncommon at that time and one of the first examples of the modernist style in Barcelona.
The battlements, the frieze of shields, and the sobriety give it a resemblance to a medieval era, highlighting the Catalan arches, the large Roman windows, and the Arab arches. It was known by the people of the time as the Castell dels Tres Dragons, and the castle houses facilities not open to the public of the Natural Science Museum, and it was recently restored, respecting the architectural values of the construction and the furnishings.
