Montblanc possesses the best-preserved walled enclosure in Catalonia. It has a perimeter of 1,500 meters, with around thirty towers. The materials used were stone, mortar, and rammed earth in some places. In the corners of the towers, however, regular stone blocks were used. The enclosure is made up of four sections, and in the past, there were only four entrance gates located according to the cardinal points: the Saint Anthony gate, the Saint Francis gate, the Saint George tower-gate, and the Bové tower-gate. It was built following the process of fortifications of the main towns ordered by Peter III the Ceremonious due to the war against Peter the Cruel of Castile. From 1971, recovery began. One can climb to a section of the wall with the gastronomic guided tour.
