Alto del Angliru is a steep mountain road and one of the hardest climbs in cycling, and has been included several times in the Vuelta a España. The top of the climb is located 1570 meters above sea level. The total elevation gain from base to summit is 1248 meters. The climb has a length of 12.5 kilometers and an average gradient of 10.1%. The first five kilometers of the climb have an average gradient of 7.6%. This is already quite steep, but not overly challenging for world-class cyclists. The sixth kilometer even offers riders a chance to relax, with a gradient of 2.1% and even a short descent. The last half of the climb is tougher. From the sixth kilometer to the summit, the average gradient is 13.1%. The steepest section, with a gradient of 23.6%, is called Cueña les Cabres and is located about 3 kilometers from the top. From here, the climb becomes more difficult as there are still two slopes with gradients ranging from 18% to 21%.
