Jewish Community in Málaga

When Málaga was taken, the Catholic Monarchs imprisoned all its citizens due to the harsh capture of the city. It is known that the Jewish population had to be made up of about 450 people. These were confined in 1487 in Carmona and it wasn't until 1489 that negotiations for their release with Isabel took place; after this, the Jews resettled in Málaga. The newcomers, along with those who settled after their expulsion, gathered a large Jewish population. All of this provoked criticism from Christians before the Council, and after the first expulsion decree from the city in 1490, the definitive expulsion took place in 1492. The area of the Jewish quarter of Málaga had to be between the streets Alcazabilla, Santiago, Granada, and Postigo de San Agustín, with the synagogue being in what today would be the Pimpi or at the back of the Picasso Museum.
