Museum of the Galician People

The Museum of the Galician People is a private museum of Santiago de Compostela, created in 1976 in the former Dominican convent of San Domingos de Bonaval, it opened in 1977. In 1993, the Autonomous Government of Galicia, recognising that the Museum of the Galician People is a spiritual and symbolic beacon of the network of anthropological museums in Galicia, granted it the competence to coordinate all the museums and private and public collections in Galicia dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of the Galician historical-anthropological heritage.
The museum was created by the non-profit association Padroado do Museo do Pobo Galego, composed largely of cultural institutions centred on Galicia, specialists in Galician culture and representatives of public administrations.
