The Basilica of Santa María del Coro (in Basque, Koruko Andre Mariaren basilika) is a Baroque-style basilica completed in 1774, located at the intersection of 31 de Agosto and Mayor streets in the "Parte Vieja" of San Sebastián (Guipúzcoa). Although it is of Baroque style, it also features Gothic, Churrigueresque, and Neoclassical elements, and has a beautiful Baroque portico with Rococo elements. Its façade and main entrance are aligned with the Good Shepherd Cathedral, creating an axis formed by the continuation of Mayor Street, which later becomes Hernani Street after the Boulevard, and further on, Loyola Street.
Construction began in 1743 based on the project by architects Pedro Ignacio Lizardi and Miguel de Salazar, built on an ancient Gothic church from the 12th and 13th centuries, whose layout and orientation were preserved.
When viewing the basilica from the outside, it is important to highlight the main entrance, located between the two towers like a retable, above which we can observe the martyred figure of Saint Sebastian, the papal symbols that grant it the status of minor basilica, and the city coat of arms crowning the building.
