The chimney of the electricity factory or the Thermal Power Plant of La Misericordia in Málaga was built between 1957 and 1960 as part of a government program for power plants located along the coast, commissioned to the National Institute of Industry, which also constructed the now-vanished plants in Almería and Cádiz. The operation of the Málaga plant should be related to the socioeconomic phenomenon of the tourist boom of the Costa del Sol.
