The Son Dureta University Hospital was a medical, university, and public center belonging to ib-salut. It was located in the Western district of Palma, specifically in the eponymous neighborhood. Currently, all its services have been relocated to the new Son Espases University Hospital.
In the early 1950s, the construction of a hospital on the island of Mallorca was proposed. The architect Martín José Marcide Odriozola was tasked with carrying out the project, and he chose the old Son Dureta estate as the site. The construction of the medical center began in 1953, and on November 16, 1955, it was inaugurated under the name Residence Sanitary Virgin of Lluc. At that time, the hospital had 300 beds and 150 workers, of which 60 were nurses. There were only two resident doctors; the rest only came to the center when they had to operate and were paid per medical act.
