The palace of the Dukes of Estrada is a palace located in the town of Llanes, in the Principality of Asturias. It is included in the Red List of the heritage of Hispania Nostra. The palace was built in the Middle Ages, preserving from its original structure the tower of the Aguilar de San Jorge from the 11th century. The building was remodeled in the 14th century and acquired its current appearance with the construction of its current facade in the 18th century by the first count of la Vega del Sella, Fernán Duque de Estrada. The current building is therefore in a Baroque style, with the facade flanked by two square-section towered volumes. It has been in ruins since the fire that occurred in 1809. Two popular stories circulate about this incident: the first indicates that it was the work of the troops of General Bonet during the War of Independence; the other version states that it was the locals themselves who, after the help of the Duque de Estrada family to the French, rebelled and burnt down the palace as revenge.
