Villafranco del Guadiana is a hamlet of the Spanish municipality of Badajoz, belonging to the province of Badajoz. This town was created during the period of the so-called Plan Badajoz, which included the creation of new populations. It has been informally proposed, since the eighties of the twentieth century, the change of official name of the town, proposing as an alternative "Villa del Guadiana",[1] but there have been no concrete official actions until August 2016, when the city council of Badajoz began the procedures to make the change. However, most residents do not accept "Villa del Guadiana" as a new name. [2]
