Promenade of La Coruña

The promenade of La Coruña is the longest urban promenade in Europe,[1]​ with its more than 13 continuous kilometers by the seaside. It is a work made in segments, modified and unfinished.

The origins of the current promenade date back to projects from the early 20th century for a promenade, a ring road around the Coruña peninsula.[2]​ In the 1945 Cort Plan, a road was proposed from San Roque along the coast passing by the Tower of Hercules to Porto, but it was never carried out. In 1948, the Planning of Alignments again addressed this project. In 1956, with the Law of Land in effect, the General Plan of 1967 was approved specifying a road without pedestrian priority. The Urban Planning Plan of 1985 set plans for protection, conservation, and development in the area of the current promenade. In 1986, the well-known "Bofill project" was presented, mainly based on interventions in the port area.[3]​ Proposals that were rejected for being too disruptive to the city's aesthetics.[4]​[5]​
