Cave of the Arbreda

The Cova de l'Arbreda is an archaeological site of prehistoric chronology, the most important of the various cavities that exist in the area of Reclau, in the municipality of Serinyà. It is currently part of the Serinyà Prehistoric Caves Park. Neanderthals inhabited it between 140,000 and 39,000 years ago, while modern humans inhabited it between 39,000 and 16,000 years ago. The Cova de l'Arbreda is one of the archaeological sites of a place known as the Paratge del Reclau, at one end of the travertine of the old lake of Espolla. It is located in Serinyà, a village in the region of Banyoles, in the northeast of Catalonia. The site of Reclau is 4km north of Banyoles, and is currently included in the Park of the Prehistoric Caves of Serinyà.
