The first factories producing leather goods according to the Moorish tradition were built in the 18th century .

Today Ubrique is one of the most important learning centers in Europe . Ubrique is the purveyor of Louis Vuitton and Gucci , among others. There are numerous tanneries and leather shops.

What started with mostly manufacturing leather riding boots and saddles has grown further to everything that can be found in the big fashion houses today. The leather for bags from brands such as Louis Vuitton and Gucci is manufactured here before the couturier makes a trendy bag for the catwalk. In Ubrique there is also a leather museum (Museo de la Piel) with old tools and an art gallery full of leather goods.
