The temple was a 9 m high hexagonal temple , set on a podium 3.5 m high and consisted of six columns on the main facade and ten columns on each of the sides. It was 32 meters long and 16 meters wide. It is not the only temple the city had, but it was perhaps the most important of them all, as well as the only one known through archaeological excavations.
All around you can see some original fragments of the temple, such as pieces of drums or capitals.
At present, the only remains of the building are the foundation, the staircase, the altar and some shafts of columns and capitals.
The temple was discovered in 1951 during the expansion of the City Hall.
Its construction began during the reign of Emperor Claudius (r. 41-54) and was completed some forty years later.
The material used was almost exclusively marble , from the columns to the walls, roof and entablature. The quality of the marble and the carving tell us that the construction was carried out by highly skilled craftsmen , placing the result at the level of the most beautiful buildings of the empire .
