In the Paseo de Colombia, this sculpture by José Álvarez Cubero , a bronze copy of "Ganymedes: El Copero de los Déus", stands on the pergola in front of the parapet balcony.
The statue represents the handsome Trojan hero who was kidnapped by Zeus (Jupiter in Roman mythology) to make him his lover and cupbearer to the gods. It is a life-size sculpture showing him naked, chalice in hand, along with the eagle that became his captor.
When Cubero sent the work to Carlos IV, who in turn sent it to the Academy for academics to comment on , his report stated: "That Álvarez is on the right track, that he shows great talent for sculpture, as well as that the Statue is very good, but there are still some flaws that the author of the Álvarez statue is better able to correct, at the suggestion of the professors whose judgment is appealing, since they have found that the lower part of the statue is generally better than that upper part and that in another upper part they notice that the neck is a bit short.
