Plaça de Mina has an exceptional historical and artistic value.

It is located in the old garden of the Convent of San Francisco, founded in 1838 . First, two tree-lined streets were laid out, and in 1861 the inner gardens with a bandstand. In 1897 it was reformed again. It houses the Museum of Cadiz , among other notable Cadiz palaces.

At some point it was decided to erect a now-lost statue of General Espoz y Mina , hero of the War of Independence. The name of the square comes from this general.

After Genovés Park, Plaça de Mina is considered one of the richest corners of the city in terms of tree species.
