Iglesia del Colegio de Santa Victoria - Cordoba

The church of the Colegio de Santa Victoria is perhaps the best example of Cordoba's neoclassical architecture , built in the late 18th century. From its construction until now it has been part of the Colegio de Santa Victoria. This temple should not be confused with the Church of Santa Victoria, located in the Barrio del Naranjo.

With a circular plan , it has a majestic facade supported by six Corinthian columns resting on a powerful entablature. The semicircular vault was designed by the French architect Baltasar Drevetón and construction began in 1761. He did not finish it because the dome collapsed , and it was the architect Ventura Rodríguez who reinforced the walls and closed the giant dome. The considerable volume of the church's dome makes it one of the most important landmarks in the panorama of the city.

The episcopal coat of arms on the facade belongs to Bishop Francisco Pacheco de Córdoba.

Inside, the canvases by Agustín Grande, a painter who aesthetically imitated Tiepolo, stand out . The church is currently open for the celebration of religious events such as baptisms, communions and marriages.

The main altarpiece was created by Alonso Gómez de Sandoval in 1780 and consists of carved and gilded wood. In the central niche is the statue of Santa Victoria, made on the same date and by the same artist. It is flanked by two lampstand angels , also made by Gómez de Sandoval himself. The altar table dates from 1783 and was made by Ventura Rodríguez and José Fosati.
