Fray Félix de Granada bought a house on Puerta del Corbacho from Marquis Almunia in 1629, with the aim of building the convent of the Capuchin Brothers. The works were finished in 1633, and the church was built a few years later.
The church had a single nave with a transept topped by a dome supported by pendentives. At that time the front facade had three semi-circular arches, but now only the central arch remains, above which is a niche with a fine image of "San Francisco" , flanked by two small, narrow rectangular openings.
The whole is crowned by a large triangular pediment of the same width as the facade, perforated in the center by a small oculus.
This church houses one of the most revered statues in our city and a wonderful example of Córdoba's baroque imagery, the Virgen de los Dolores, a work by Juan Prieto from 1718, which is carried in procession on Good Friday by more than six hundred Nazarenes and more than a thousand penitents on her route through the streets of Córdoba.
