Plaza de San Agustin - Cordoba

This square is also known as "Compás de San Agustín" , because it is located on what must have been the entrance site of the Monastery of San Agustín. The word Compas was common to almost all regular squares in front of churches, and this is how we find it in many cities. This monastery was founded by King Ferdinand III the Saint on the outskirts of Córdoba, but later Alfonso XI donated the place it now occupies to this order.

We know that the fountain in the center of the square was built in 1854, although it has now disappeared and its place has been replaced by a sculpture by the composer of Cordoban themes, Ramón Medina.

Today, the square is not as popular as in previous decades due to the gradual disappearance of the market that was held there. In addition to the monument to Ramón Medina, a small drinking fountain and beautiful metal benches, it is planted with palm trees and plane trees .
