The Church of Santa María known as Iglesia Madre de Dios is an unfinished work of the 19th century , owned by the diocese but used by the municipality, and in December 2015 the work of struts began
The church belonged to the Madre de Dios convent that existed in the area and had various uses such as stables, factory or asylum for begging, among other things. The Casa de Acogida and the Casa de la Juventud are now located on the former monastery grounds.
The former Convent of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios y San Rafael, commonly known as Convento Madre de Dios , was a convent belonging to the Third Order of Saint Francis, it was completed in 1602.
With the arrival of the French in 1808, the sack of Córdoba took place, the main witness being the looting of the church. The French turned it into stables . On their return in May 1814, the brothers began the restoration : the brothers themselves and members of the Brotherhood of the Passion built the choir and the main altar, painted the chapels to compensate for the lack of altarpieces, and completed the restoration in 1819. But following an order in 1821 dissolving all monasteries with fewer than 20 persons , the order began to sell all of the order's assets.
After Mendizábal's decommissioning, a private individual bought the decommissioned space except for the church, which remained open for worship, and sold the monastery to a company for the establishment of a glass factory .
The monastery was finally consecrated in 1864 as a beggar's home under the direction of the monk Agustín Moreno.
