The iconic Palacio de las Dueñas is also known as Casa de Alba and has no less than 500 years of history .
Since it opened in 2016, you can discover everything in this beautiful palace, such as courtyards, gardens and majestic rooms. Casa Palacio de las Dueñas was built in the late 15th century, a period when there was much economic growth in the city and other monuments, such as the Real Alcazar and Casa de Pilatos , were also significantly expanded.
Palacio de las Dueñas takes its name from the Monastery of Santa María de las Dueñas . The monastery was adjacent to the palace, but was demolished in 1868 . Initially, the palace was owned by the Pineda family, but after a family tragedy they were forced to sell the house to pay a ransom for an imprisoned family member . After the marriage of the 5th Marchioness of Villanueva del Río with the 4th Duke of Alba, the palace in Seville is also known as Casa de Alba. In the past, the palace was visited by famous figures such as Jacqueline Kennedy, Rainier of Monaco, Grace Kelly and Alfonso XIII.
The architecture is a distinctive Renaissance style mixed with Moorish and Gothic influences. The beautiful bougainvillea facade is very impressive and photogenic.
Poet Antonio Machado was born in Palacio de las Dueñas and Casa Palacio de las Dueñas was also the favorite home of the Duchess of Alba. She was one of the famous Spanish aristocrats. Another highlight of Palacio de las Dueñas is its art collection. It has more than 1,400 works of art, including sculptures, tapestries, furniture and paintings.
