The monument is a sculptural group created by the artist Julio López Hernández that is placed on the facade of the palace, on the west side of the square and in the same place where there is a ceramic tile commemorating the poet's birthplace on July 26, 1875 .
The monument consists of two elements that refer to two situations in time: the past and the present. The first is reminiscent of Antonio Machado's sculpture, the second element is a sculpture of a physical figure that evokes the present.
Commissioned in 1991, the ensemble was designed by the author for this specific place, the walls of the Palacio de las Dueñas, where the poet was born and spent his early years. To complement the monument, a lemon tree and an olive tree were planted.
