Convento de La Encarnación HH Agustínas - Seville

In 1385, this monastery of Augustinian nuns was part of the extinct hospital of Santa Marta, a foundation of the archdeacon of Ecija Fernán Martínez.

The small church has medieval architectural features , making it particularly interesting.

The church consists of a single nave covered with ribbed vaults supported by four corbels. The presbytery has a square plan and is covered by a dome that coincides with an old Muslim chapel. In the 19th century, other rooms were added to the monastery due to the arrival of the Augustinian community. An upper and lower choir were added, a door was opened at the Plaza de la Virgen de los Reyes, a lantern was built on the dome and the current bell tower.

In the monastery there are altarpieces and altars dedicated to various saints. The main altarpiece , in neoclassical style like the rest of the altarpieces inside, is dominated by a group of statues of "The Annunciation".

The monastery space looks different from the usual monastery solutions due to the presence of the surrounding buildings. The nuns' residence is located in the large rectangular cloister, which was recently built in 1971 . There is an area with an orchard and garden, and community work areas. A tower that belonged to the Islamic defensive walls has also been preserved in this area.
