Palacio del Marqués de la Motilla - Seville

Description

The Palace of the Marquis de la Motilla is located in the historic center of Seville and the origins of its facade date back to the early 20th century, when the road needed to be widened.

This project was carried out between 1921 and 1924, although the work took a long time due to various problems resulting from the widening. Construction of this palace, one of the most beautiful in Seville , was completed in 1931. Its architecture went through a historicist period (which recreated historical styles of the past ), so its owner, the Marquis of La Motilla, hired two architects to to carry out this work with medieval inspiration: Gino Coppede, who would be responsible for the design of the building, and Vicente Traver, technical director of the work.

This association of architects created a Florentine-inspired building with an Italian-medieval facade , the most attractive element of which is the 25-meter-high brick watchtower . Gino Coppede was inspired by the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence to create the rectangular watchtower, topped by battlements similar to those of the Italian palace.

The nineteenth-century regionalist facade on Calle Cuna was also used, where a belvedere in the regionalist style has been preserved. The two facades were connected by a garden courtyard built according to Gothic canons . This modern courtyard layout breaks with the central courtyard layout of Seville.

Unfortunately, the Palacio del Marqués de la Motilla is a private residence and not open to the public , so you'll have to content yourself with marveling at the two facades of this palace every time you pass by.
