Routing Walk - the most beautiful

Saladar de Jandia is a protected wetland nature reserve, a Ramsar site, ecologically very valuable. Since 2011, it has been protected by a fence. The Saladar lies between the beach and a walking path next to the road.

Periodically, the area is moistened by seawater, creating a unique salt area with halophilic, salt-loving plants and a special fauna.

The area is approximately 2 km long and 500m at its widest point, creating a total surface area of 115.6 ha. The salt-loving plants have adaptations to limit salt concentration.

Five plant species are characteristic of this thermo-Atlantic halophilic ecosystem.

In addition to plants, birds nest here. Both migratory and resident birds find shelter among the plants. Depending on the time of year, different birds can be spotted.

The area is off-limits, but near the lighthouse, there is a boardwalk that runs through the Saladar.

The 5 typical plant species can be easily seen from the edges. Many other species, not typical for the area, can also be admired.

It is absolutely forbidden to feed animals, neither the parrots, nor the pigeons, and certainly not the North African Atlas squirrel, an invasive species.

Occasionally, signs are posted with information about the area.

Definitely a must-see to discover how diverse this area is in terms of plants.

The walk can start in either Jandia or Morro Jable, it is a circular walk that goes one direction along the road and the other direction along the beach, always following the closure.
