City walk Sevilla part 1: - to the north of the Plaza de la Encarnación

This walk is part of a triptych of city guides in Seville that together visit the main attractions in the wider area around the center of Seville. Anyone who completes the 3 walks has seen Seville.

The walk starts at Isla Mágica for those coming by car. Those arriving by public transport might be better off starting at the Plaza de la Encarnación.

Although this part of the city cannot be compared to the historic center, it was an important place during the world expo in 1992. After a brief visit to the Jardines del Guadalquivir, we cross the river. The Parliament of Andalusia is housed in the buildings of the Hospital de las Cinco Llagas, which was (16th century) one of the largest and most prestigious hospitals in Europe.

Nearby is located in the Basilica Menor de la Santísima María de la Esperanza Macarena the most venerated image of Seville, a statue from the mid-17th century that is commonly referred to as La Macarena.

We arrive at the Plaza de la Santa Isabel, probably one of the most beautiful squares in the historic district of Seville. A little further, the iconic Palacio de las Dueñas, also known as Casa de Alba, with its now impressive 500 years of history, has much to offer.

The Metropol Parasol, also known as Las Setas de Sevilla (The Mushrooms of Seville), is a landmark in Seville. We are here at the Plaza de la Encarnación, the southernmost point of this walk.

We pass the Minaret of the Mosque of Ibn Adabbas, the only remains of what was once the great mosque of Seville.

The columns of the Monumento Columnas de Hércules are a living symbol of the history of Seville.
