The Battle of El Catllar in 1641 was one of the episodes of the Siege of Tarragona, during the uprising of Catalonia.
Shortly after the revolt known as the Corpus de Sangre, the army of Philip IV occupied Tortosa and Tarragona, and on January 17, 1641, faced with the alarming penetration of the Castilian army, Pau Claris, at the head of the Generalitat of Catalonia, proclaimed the Catalan Republic, agreeing to a political and military alliance with France, placing Catalonia under the obedience of Louis XIII of France. A few days later, with the help of the French army, the Generalitat achieved a significant military victory in the Battle of Montjuic on January 26, 1641, and the Castilian troops retreated to Tarragona.
