The quiet holiday village of La Petite-Pierre is situated right in the heart of the Northern Vosges Regional Natural Park. The exhibitions in the castle provide information about the nature and culture of the natural park and, of course, about the history of the 12th-century castle. The castle has been remodeled several times; Vauban contributed to it in the 18th century. The most significant remains date back to that time: the fortifications, the water reservoir, the ramparts, and the watchtowers. The church at the castle entrance contains 15th-century frescoes and gravestones of the castle lords. Besides the castle, La Petite-Pierre is known among motorcyclists as the location of Le Lion d'Or. This motorbike-friendly hotel at the foot of the castle hill is a member of the Motor Bike Hotels and serves excellent coffee with apple pie on the terrace.
