In Hierges lies the ruins of a 12th-century castle, and it seeks out the smaller work again. The French side differs clearly from the Belgian Ardennes. It is evident from everything that human activities are less there and that there is more deciduous forest. The pines and broadleaf trees grow up to the tops of the hills, and now and then a bare rock outcrop emerges. You trudge up the narrow steep Rue du 8 mai 1945 and turn back into Belgium through the Bois de Fioche.
