The famous Cupid and Psyche statue in the Louvre is a neoclassical marble work by Antonio Canova, and is in line with the Italian tradition of using top-quality (Carrara) marble for ideal, smoothly polished figures.
It concerns Canova's Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss (Amor en Psyche), created between 1787 and 1793, now in the Michelangelo Gallery of the Louvre.
It depicts the moment when Amor (Cupid) brings Psyche back to life with a kiss, with a very dynamic, spiral composition of the two bodies.
The work is approximately 1.55 m high and 1.68 m wide and is considered a prime example of neoclassical marble sculpture.
