Théâtre du peuple

The Théâtre du Peuple de Bussang is a unique creative center in France. Born in 1895 from a humanist and artistic utopia, the theater keeps alive the ideal of its founding couple, Maurice and Camille Pottecher, summed up by the motto "Through art, for humanity" inscribed on the pediment of the stage, whose backdrop opens onto the Vosges forest. Listed as a Historic Monument since 1976, the theater welcomes visitors from all over the world. Training courses, artistic residencies and decentralized tours take place throughout the year. The "summer season" is the high point of the year, with two alternating shows, including a new creation that has been mixing professional and amateur artists since the very beginning. During this period, the theater can welcome up to 1,300 spectators a day, thanks to the support of numerous volunteers. Director Julie Delille has been running the house since October 2023. At the heart of her project are questions of the sensitive, the living, and relationships. In this place with its unique temporality, the notions of seasonality and territory find their full meaning. To pursue this audacious utopia, we need to bring together artistic experimentation, the link to works of the mind and exchange as essential values. Guided tours are offered at 10:30 a.m.: every Sunday outside the summer season (except November and December), on Tuesdays during school vacations (zones a, b and c) and on Fridays during the summer season. Without reservation, please check the visit calendar on the site before coming. The outdoor site is freely accessible. The park and buildings are well worth a visit!
