Soligny la Trappe was the place where the abbey of La Grande Trappe was based. It is the cradle of the Trappist order, known for their beer. But the beer was not brewed here, but brewed in Belgium. From here, the initiative was taken to found several other monasteries: Bellefontaine, Timadeuc, Tre Fontane, Echourgnac and the Abbey of Westmalle in Belgium.
