The Voice of the North
This concrete building from 1936 is a beautiful example of Lille's architectural eclecticism. The façade features a declaration of principle: “Defending employment in Le Nord.” We also see the coats of arms of all the regional editions of the newspaper. At the very top is a group of sculptures symbolizing Flanders, Hainaut, and Artois. Flanders holds the wheat in hand, to the left is Artois with the Newfoundland sailor, and Hainaut has a racing pigeon (coulon) on its shoulder (pigeon racing was widely practiced in the region and had many pigeon racing associations).
